In-person and online tuition
Although most of the tuition we provide is in-person in the homes of our customers, our online provision is growing. In-person teaching generally provides a stronger interpersonal connection, but online tuition can be just as effective and, in some cases, it can provide a more convenient arrangement. Irrespective of whether sessions are delivered in-person or online, the effectiveness of tutoring depends heavily on three main aspects:
- the quality of the tutor
- the student’s motivation
- how regularly sessions happen
It’s also crucial that there is a strong bond between student and tutor.
Online tuition offers the same personalised support and careful tutor matching as in-person sessions, and all from the comfort of your own home. One of its biggest advantages is flexibility. Both tutor and student can connect from anywhere, making it ideal for those in areas with limited local tutor availability. Sessions can also be recorded, allowing students to revisit lessons later for revision and reinforcement.
Workshops and group tuition
All our workshops and small group sessions are delivered by subject specialists and create a more interactive and motivating learning environment. Students benefit from discussing ideas with peers and developing their confidence, teamwork and communication skills.
In addition, our workshops are typically more cost-effective than one-to-one tutoring while still providing high-quality tuition and personalised guidance. They take place either for a full week in the school holidays or as ongoing weekly sessions.
Entrance exam preparation
The Entrance Exam preparation workshop is ideal for those children who are preparing to sit the entrance exam to grammar and independent schools which take place in year 6. With a primary focus on exam technique, it includes tips on how to tackle questions successfully.
Mock exams
Our mock entrance exams reflect the real exam and are conducted under strict exam conditions. Papers are marked within 24 hours and posted by first class mail or emailed to parents.
GCSE, iGCSE and A level
These workshops help students prepare for GCSE, iGCSE and A level exams across AQA, Edexcel and OCR by strengthening subject knowledge and exam technique.
Sessions run throughout the year, mainly for English and maths, with a structured Easter revision programme covering a wider range of subjects before the main exam season.
Each lesson is followed by a 30-minute mini exam, marked immediately with feedback to highlight areas for improvement.
SATs preparation
As with our entrance exam workshop, the focus for the SATs preparation workshop is on exam technique and ensuring that students are fully equipped to answer questions with confidence when sitting the actual assessments in May of their Year 6.
Primary English and maths
The Primary English and maths workshop is for children in Reception and Years 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Sessions aim to develop each child’s knowledge in a fun and varied way as well as helping to reinforce any areas they are struggling with.
Homeschooling
Choosing to homeschool can feel overwhelming, but an increasing number of families are turning to it to better support their child’s educational and emotional needs.
Our dedicated team of homeschool tutors provide flexible support through weekly lessons, online group sessions and curriculum coaching.
We also specialise in supporting children with SEND or an EHCP, tailoring lessons to their abilities, interests and learning styles. Tuition is available online or in person, with daytime, evening and weekend options to fit around family life.
Schools, colleges, local authorities and other agencies
Since 2010, Choice Home Tutoring has developed strong and lasting relationships with primary schools, secondary schools, sixth form colleges and local authorities across the UK. We are proud to work in partnership with educational settings to provide high-quality, tailored tuition to help students build confidence, improve attainment and achieve what they are capable of.
As a Department for Education-approved Tuition Partner of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP), we were privileged to support disadvantaged students until the programme concluded in August 2024. It allowed us to help address educational inequality and support schools in narrowing the attainment gap – something we still target as an ongoing priority.
In our ongoing discussions with headteachers and local authority staff, it is evident that they recognise and appreciate the impact of the extra support provided by our tutors.
We believe that the most effective support comes from genuine collaboration. Before any tuition begins, we meet with the school leader or local authority case worker to fully understand the needs of each student, including those with SEND or holding an EHCP, where their learning is at, and the outcomes required.
We then carefully match each student with tutors who have the right subject expertise, teaching approach and experience to provide the best possible support. Open communication with key staff is crucial in allowing us to adapt our support and maximise student progress.
