Jo graduated from St Andrews University with a degree in International Relations and Comparative Literature. and has a Master’s in the Psychology of Education from the University of Manchester. She specialised in positive psychology theory and making schools happy places for students to learn.
She has worked in the education sector ever since, not only as a tutor and manager, but also at BBC Bitesize, the National Citizen Service and in a Pupil Referral Unit. She specialises in working with children who are on the SEND spectrum and has experience both as a Literacy Specialist and running student support bases.
She writes for our own blog, but also for educational companies such as the Times Education Supplement, the BBC and Teachwire. She is passionate about making sure every child achieves their potential, regardless of circumstances, and is equipped with the skills they need to succeed.
We offer specialist support for students with a SEND diagnosis, or for anyone you think might be on the spectrum. We have a fantastic SEND team who will tailor each session to your child’s needs and keep you informed as to their progress. One to one tuition can be particularly beneficial for SEND students, as it allows us to build their confidence and support them with an individual plan. We’re always happy to explain how differentiating resources works and to ensure you also feel confident with supporting your child’s academic success.
We also specialise in offering 11+ tuition for students taking the Trafford or / and private entrance exams. The English and maths papers look ahead to the Year 7 curriculum, so our tutors will ensure your child feels fully confident with those areas. Likewise, we look at the content which will be completely new to them: the Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning. A key part to preparation is looking at exam technique, so we will make sure that’s a focus of the sessions and we run mock exams over the summer to ensure they feel completely comfortable on the day.
